Democracy and governance

When equipped with effective skills and strategies, people can come together to influence policy, protect civil and human rights, and promote peace. FHI 360’s democracy and governance programs work with communities worldwide to end violent conflict and to strengthen peaceful, democratic societies.  

Together with local partners, we create platforms for collaboration, collective action, and dialogue so communities can champion the changes they need to thrive. By sharing tools, expertise and lessons learned, we help increase local capacity to address challenges today and set the stage for a better tomorrow.   

Our programs are wide-ranging and responsive to local needs. Examples include helping citizens hold government institutions accountable, supporting peacebuilding efforts and strengthening local capacity to mitigate conflict and extremism.

Civil society strengthening 

An effective civil society is the backbone of thriving communities and countries. FHI 360’s programs strengthen citizens’ ability to address their own challenges, influence policy and monitor government performance. 

Mental health

FHI 360 integrates mental health and psychosocial support interventions into our projects and programs across various sectors all over the world.

Partnering with young people 

Young people are advocates and changemakers who drive efforts to improve lives today and build a more equitable tomorrow. FHI 360 partners with young people to design and implement programs that meet their needs and build more inclusive, stable, peaceful and thriving communities and countries. 

Peacebuilding and conflict mitigation 

FHI 360 helps governments, local organizations, and negotiators develop the skills, expertise and resources they need to build peace and foster stability and prosperity. Resolving conflict without violence not only saves lives but also helps preserve social and economic gains.
