When communities face instability, emergencies or violent conflict, FHI 360 stands up humanitarian solutions that address urgent needs and restore long-term, lifesaving services for all. Through our integrated approach, we provide technical expertise and direct assistance in health, nutrition, protection, and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) to improve the health and well-being of people affected by crisis.
With deep experience and partnerships around the world, we draw from both local and global expertise to bring crucial aid to communities facing crisis. Building on existing strengths, we develop and implement strategies to help people stay safe, nourished and healthy.
FHI 360’s humanitarian response teams and local partners reach and meet the needs of those who face heightened risk, including women and children, elderly people, people with disabilities, LGBTQIA+ people, and people who have been displaced. Together, we’re making an impact where support is needed most, saving lives today and building resilience for a more secure tomorrow.
Our humanitarian response work
Education in emergencies
FHI 360’s education experts have worked for decades alongside committed educators around the world to reestablish systems and renew hope in the midst of conflict.
Health in emergencies
We strengthen health systems, dispatch mobile medical teams and deliver medical supplies so people affected by crisis receive the health services they need.
Nutrition in emergencies
Our teams aim to ensure that people affected by crisis have access to the nutrition services and support they need to achieve optimal growth and development. We focus on preventing and treating malnutrition, especially among children under 5 and pregnant and lactating women.
Protection in emergencies
FHI 360 is committed to advocating and maintaining the centrality of protection within all humanitarian interventions and seeks to understand how our own actions affect people’s safety.
Water, sanitation and hygiene in emergencies
Access to safe water, adequate sanitation and proper hygiene reduces illness and death. Through our programs, we work to improve behaviors and practices to mitigate the risk of diseases related to water, sanitation and hygiene.
Our humanitarian principles
In all aspects of our work, FHI 360 consistently upholds the core humanitarian principles of humanity, impartiality, neutrality and independence.
By placing the humanitarian imperative first in deciding when, where and how to deliver aid, we systematically take into account age, gender and diversity in our programs and we aim to reach the most vulnerable individuals: women and children — including those who are unaccompanied or separated — elderly people, people with disabilities, LGBTQIA+ people, and internally displaced people.
All of our humanitarian programs abide by safeguarding principles, including Do No Harm and the survivor-centered approach, as we seek to understand how our actions affect people’s safety and respect the rights, dignity and decisions of program participants.
