One or more forms of malnutrition affect every country, jeopardizing health and well-being for millions of people worldwide. Through research, innovation and advocacy, FHI 360 develops evidence-based programs and public policies to improve nutrition for all.
Access to safe, sufficient and nutritious food is essential for communities to keep children healthy, prevent disease, promote learning and boost economic growth. Through community partnerships, policy advocacy and technical assistance, we support global and country efforts to ensure good nutrition in times of crisis and every day.
In the United States, FHI 360 teams are researching childhood obesity and raising nutrition awareness to prevent diabetes and promote good health. Globally, we’re advancing nutrition research, promoting food security and healthy habits, and preventing malnutrition for those most affected, including women, infants and children.
Our work in nutrition
Advocacy and policy in nutrition
For the past two decades, FHI 360 has worked to influence global nutrition policies, collaborating directly with governments to develop tools, strategies and guidelines to address nutrition challenges.
Emergency nutrition and food security
Our teams aim to ensure that people affected by crisis have access to the nutrition services and support they need to achieve optimal growth and development. We focus on preventing and treating malnutrition, especially among children under 5 and pregnant and lactating women.
Infant and young child nutrition
For more than two decades, FHI 360 has been at the forefront of efforts to improve infant and young child nutrition. Promoting optimal infant and young child nutrition is a cornerstone of our nutrition work at the global and country levels, in development or emergency contexts.
Nutrition and dietary assessment
Having data on what people eat is crucial for the design of effective, evidence-based nutrition interventions. We established Intake — a center for dietary assessment that builds on our deep history of developing nutrition indicators and assessments — to increase the availability and use of reliable data.
Social and behavior change
We believe that social change and behavior change are at the heart of our global work and are vital to achieving our health and development goals.
Women’s and girls’ nutrition
We recognize the impact of gender inequality on nutrition and the crucial role of women in providing proper nutrition for their families. That’s why we partner with governments and organizations around the world to address barriers to good nutrition for women and children.
