Alcançar Project: Resources

The Alcançar project partners with Mozambique’s Ministry of Health to strengthen the capacity of the health system to deliver high-quality, client-centered maternal, newborn and child health (MNCH) services. The project has generated resources, briefs, tools, webinars and success stories that offer practical, up-to-date knowledge and can be used to strengthen MNCH programming at national, provincial, district, facility and community levels.

Resources, briefs and tools

  • Brief: Birth companionship as part of respectful maternal care in Mozambique

    This brief summarizes research on birth companionship as a component of respectful maternal care in Nampula province, Mozambique. The document offers recommendations for improving the monitoring of birth companionship and increasing meaningful birth companionship in Nampula.​
  • Report: Baseline Assessment of Facility and District Capacity: Alcançar, Qualidade de Serviços de Saúde para Mulheres e Crianças

    The Alcançar project conducted a baseline assessment to establish an evidence base against which to measure project performance and impact over of the life of the project and to inform project priorities and planning.

Webinar Series

The Alcançar project hosts a webinar series in collaboration with the Mozambique Ministry of Health, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and consortium partners.

  • Introducing obstetric simulation in Nampula and Zambézia – an overview of the approach and implementation learnings (February 2023)

    The Alcançar project hosted a webinar with partner PRONTO International to present results from the implementation of PRONTO’s obstetric simulation approach in Nampula and Zambézia provinces.
  • mParto in Monapo: Using a digital application to monitor women during labor, delivery and referral (October 2022)

    The Alcançar project hosted a webinar to discuss the project’s support of health care providers in using mobile application mParto (“mLabour” in Portuguese). The application, adapted to the Mozambican context by FHI 360 and partner Dimagi, provides decision-making support to health care providers to improve labor management.
  • Remote training improves providers’ knowledge of maternal, newborn and child health in Nampula Province, Mozambique (June 2022)

    The Alcançar project hosted a webinar with partner Viamo to share information about a remote training approach for nurses and community health workers to improve knowledge of and services in maternal, newborn and child health in Nampula province.
  • Results from health system innovations to improve maternal, newborn and child health in Nampula Province, Mozambique (April 2022)

    The Alcançar project hosted a webinar with technical staff members, Mozambique’s Ministry of Health and USAID to present the results from the project’s launch in Q4 2019 through Q4 2021.
