As a consortium partner on the Hellen Keller International-led Nepal Suaahara II project supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), FHI 360 led efforts to improve the Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition (IMAM) and incorporate Healthy Timing and Spacing of Pregnancy (HTSP)/Family Planning (FP) into routine nutrition programs.
In close collaboration with the Family Welfare Division of Nepal’s Ministry of Health and Population, FHI 360 supported the government of Nepal in revising treatment protocols used in nutrition rehabilitation homes; revising national IMAM guidelines; and developing community-level referral guidelines for detecting, referring and treating children with acute malnutrition. FHI 360 also supported the development and adoption of national nutrition performance standards for use across the maternal-child continuum of care; developed, tested and introduced nutrition service quality improvement (QI) guidelines, social and behavior change communication materials, and job aids on nutrition and HTSP/FP; and strengthened the capacity of health workers across the country in QI, IMAM, nutrition in emergencies and HTSP/FP through trainings, mentoring and coaching.
