FHI Solutions joins FHI 360 to ramp up efforts to end undernutrition

WASHINGTON, D.C. — To advance efforts to fight undernutrition, FHI Solutions, an organization with a long history of improving nutrition outcomes in communities around the world, will become a part of its parent company, FHI 360, on October 1, 2023.

“The world has reached a critical moment in the fight against global hunger and undernutrition,” says Dr. Tessie San Martin, chief executive officer of FHI 360. “We will be more effective in addressing the crisis by working, learning and innovating together, combining our nutrition expertise and resources under a new nutrition unit within FHI 360.”

The scale of the global food and nutrition crisis is unprecedented. Violent conflict, such as the war in Ukraine, and other threats including climate change and economic shocks, continue to push people to the brink of starvation. In 2022, approximately 2.4 billion people, mostly women and people in rural areas, did not have consistent access to nutritious, safe and sufficient food — nearly 1 in 3 people worldwide.

The nutrition experts at FHI 360 and FHI Solutions have been watching the dramatic increases in maternal and child undernutrition and related child mortality in low- and middle-income countries with great concern.

“Good nutrition is foundational to life and health, and it’s critical that we marshal our resources to face this challenge,” says Dr. Nadra Franklin, managing director of FHI Solutions, and the head of FHI 360’s new nutrition unit.

Under the continued successful leadership of Franklin, the new global nutrition unit will bring together the knowledge and practices of the FHI Solutions and FHI 360 teams, combining programs, research and development, and policy and advocacy into one expanded portfolio. The unit will benefit from the full range of FHI 360’s technical expertise, which includes strengthening health systems and catalyzing social and behavior change.
