U.S. HIV communication programs

FHI 360 has been a leader in HIV communication for more than two decades. Our experts use innovative strategic communication and social marketing to promote positive social and behavior change among individuals, communities and systems. Educating U.S. audiences about advancements in HIV prevention and treatment requires a new way of communicating about HIV. FHI 360 is leading the way in creating and implementing engaging social marketing and communication campaigns that inspire change and influence community norms around HIV prevention, testing, treatment and stigma elimination.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) selected FHI 360 to manage the Let’s Stop HIV Together (formerly Act Against AIDS) campaign. The campaign promotes general awareness of HIV prevention and treatment; elimination of stigma on HIV, HIV testing and sexual health among priority populations; and encouragement for people living with HIV to get on and stay in treatment.

Since 2013, FHI 360 has supported the award-winning Together campaigns by coordinating, developing and executing various communication projects, including creative product development, media buying, community engagement events, social and digital media outreach, and partnerships. FHI 360’s specialized social marketing and communication team uses evidence-based approaches and audience insights to create campaigns that amplify unique stories, promote innovative creative products and support people at increased risk for HIV infection to seek prevention, testing and treatment options.

FHI 360 led the merging of four consumer HIV campaigns (Start Talking. Stop HIV; HIV Treatment Works; Doing It; and Stop HIV Stigma) under one Together umbrella. Our experts used strategic communication planning to assist the CDC with this consolidation: refreshing hundreds of materials, creating a new prevention component, establishing a unified brand identity and strengthening the campaign messages.

The CDC’s Together campaigns have won multiple awards in recent years, including Best HIV Prevention Campaign in 2015 by HealthLine, Best Campaign for People Living with HIV by POZ Magazine in 2018, and Best Representation of HIV in the Arts and Media by POZ Magazine in 2019 for the innovative Transformation Tunnel project in Atlanta, GA.
