Social entrepreneurship is a growing source of innovative products and processes that support human welfare and economic growth in low- and middle-income countries. Unfortunately, nascent social entrepreneurial companies often struggle to find the right entry point to gain a foothold in these countries.
One path can be collaboration with big international nongovernmental organizations (INGOs, or BINGOs as some say) that have well-established institutional relationships across many countries and implement programs that seek innovation and emphasize sustainability and scale. But, Kevin Starr and Sarah Miers of the Mulago Foundation note in a recent article that “the systematic scale-up of social entrepreneurs’ solutions by BINGOs is simply not a thing.”
In this webinar, we will explore how the constraints on collaboration between social entrepreneurs and big INGOs can be overcome so that innovations can strengthen the work of big INGOs and big INGOs can bring those social entrepreneurial innovations to scale.
After a welcome by FHI 360 Chief Executive Officer Patrick Fine, Sarah Miers of the Mulago Foundation will briefly present the ideas from her “Nowhere to Grow” article. Then, a panel discussion will examine these ideas and offer insights and solutions, followed by a question-and-answer session with the audience.
