The Reading and Numeracy Activity (RANA) in northern Nigeria touched the lives of thousands of people, from trainers to teachers to learners. This compendium highlights a few of the ways in which RANA made a difference on both a large and small scale. These stories provide qualitative evidence for the impact of literacy initiatives working in both formal and nonformal contexts. They can become valuable motivation and lessons learned for governments and nongovernmental organizations seeking to expand literacy education even in challenging circumstances.
