This report examines the results from the HIV/STI Integrated Biological and Behavior Surveillance (IBBS) in Vietnam, conducted from 2009–2011. Under the direction of the Vietnam Authority for AIDS Control, the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology implemented the IBBS Round II among injecting drug users, female sex workers and men who have sex with men in 12 provinces. The IBBS provided information for eight indicators among the 21 indicators required by the United Nations. The IBBS, which reports to the United Nations, provides information on HIV/STI epidemics in Vietnam for the purpose of improving interventions. In addition, the IBBS estimates HIV incidence rates to facilitate better monitoring of HIV transmission among most-at-risk populations, as well as hepatitis B and hepatitis C prevalence, which are associated with human liver cancer.
