March 2012 — Under the Strengthening Abilities to Manage and Respond Effectively to HIV/AIDS (SAMARTH) project, supported by the U.S. Agency for International Development, FHI 360 and a Delhi-based nongovernmental organization, Women’s Action Group (WAG) CHELSEA, worked together to address malnutrition among children with HIV. Using a quality improvement framework and community-based approach, the project treated moderate acute malnutrition and severe acute malnutrition and improved the nutritional status of children with HIV. This publication describes the process of developing a quality improvement monitoring system. The report is useful for program managers and technical staff who want to use the Plan, Do, Study, Act quality improvement model for any public health issue, as well as approaches in addressing undernourishment among children.
