June 2020 — This strategy supports the Government of Tanzania’s efforts to improve the adoption and maintenance of health behaviors among adults in Tanzania. The USAID Tulonge Afya project assists the Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly, and Children and implementing partners with building capacity to develop and implement integrated interventions and messages that promote priority health behaviors for HIV; malaria; family planning and reproductive health; maternal, newborn, and child health; and tuberculosis. The strategy also enables the integration of activities to address emerging infectious diseases, such as Ebola and COVID-19. It includes tools and standard operating procedures for supportive supervision and quality assurance processes and metrics. The ministry, through its Health Promotion Section (HPS) and with technical support from the FHI 360-led USAID Tulonge Afya project, developed this strategy.
A common brand for this adult platform, “NAWEZA” brings together the focal health areas in an integrated approach. It is also intended to reinforce the government’s youth platform.
