March 2007 — The telecenter movement’s exceptional growth in the past decade has been driven by two significant factors: recognition of the importance of information and communication technology (ICT) for development and poverty alleviation, and recognition that “shared-access facilities,” such as telecenters, offer the most promise for extending the reach of ICT to the greatest number of people. This book covers the most pressing issues facing the global telecenter movement, presents a view of the current state of knowledge with regard to telecenters and highlights possible paths forward.
