2002 — This is the third in a series of international ethical guidelines for biomedical research involving human subjects issued by the Council for International Organizations of Medical Sciences (CIOMS) since 1982. The CIOMS Guidelines, with their concern for the application of the Declaration of Helsinki in developing countries, reflect the conditions and needs of biomedical research in those countries and the implications for multinational or transnational research in which they might be partners.
