This case study describes how the USAID Maternal and Child Health and Nutrition (MCHN) Activity implemented the Baby-Friendly Health Facility Initiative (BFHI), which was launched by the World Health Organization (WHO) and United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to protect, promote and support breastfeeding. The case study gives an overview of the capacity-strengthening activities provided by the USAID MCHN team in over 20 high-volume and equity-focused health facilities (HFs) in Kampala, Uganda, from 2020 to 2024. The document highlights the team’s achievements, lessons and recommendations related to supporting HFs in gaining Baby Friendly status.
