July 2016 — This is the final technical report for the SPLASH (Schools Promoting Learning Achievement through Sanitation and Hygiene) project. This four-year water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) project focused on schools and was funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development/Zambia. The report presents an overview and discussion of the design, organization, implementation, outputs, outcomes, lessons learned and best practices of the project. SPLASH ran from October 2011 through September 2015. It was implemented in four districts of Zambia’s Eastern Province: Chadiza, Chipata, Lundazi and Mambwe. The overall objective of the project was to improve learning environments and educational performance in Zambian primary schools by sustainably increasing access to safe water, adequate sanitation, hygiene information, and health practices.
