May 2016 — In the global development context, adjacencies are represented by the sectors that lie outside of a particular program’s current scope yet are related enough that they pose opportunities for strategic integration. Integrated development, therefore, seeks to deliberately leverage key sector adjacencies by creating more multi-faceted, holistic approaches that ultimately produce amplified impact. FHI 360’s Development Sector Adjacency Map is a planning tool to help stakeholders working in a certain sector or on a particular development challenge determine which adjacencies are important to consider as they make strategic decisions about the design, delivery, evaluation and funding of integrated development solutions.
