2011 — After-School Science PLUS is an inquiry-based science program for use in afterschool centers serving students 6 to 14 years of age. The program’s Activity Guide consists of 11 core activities that focus on physical science and literacy-through-science, using simple materials that are low cost or free, readily available and culturally relevant. Each activity includes biographies of diverse role models and a letter, in both English and Spanish, to share with families. The program’s Planning Guide provides professional development guidance for afterschool centers, resources for extended learning, and English- and Spanish-language family outreach materials. After-School Science PLUS, funded by the National Science Foundation, focuses on identity development, careers, role models, strategies for family involvement and inclusion of students with disabilities.
