Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Programming

August 2023 — The COVID-19 pandemic has deeply affected mental health, as well as health systems, creating a sense of urgency to ensure that people can access mental health and psychosocial support services (MHPSS). To support countries around the world in delivering MHPSS, FHI 360’s Meeting Targets and Maintaining Epidemic Control (EpiC) project created the 8Cs Model technical package, which is composed of a guidance document, focused annexes for health areas and unique populations, an 8Cs consultation worksheet template and the MHPSS Resource Navigator.

The guidance document describes the 8Cs Model, which is a road map of the resources available to technical advisors and program managers for integrating MPHSS into development, humanitarian and public health programs. The focused annexes (which are featured within the guidance document) describe how to use the 8Cs Model for HIV programs and for implementing MPHSS for health workers. To support collaborative consultations among teams using the 8Cs Model, the technical package also includes a consultation worksheet template.

The MHPSS Resource Navigator is an online catalog of evidence-based MHPSS interventions and assessment tools. Organized by resource type, mental health condition addressed and intended audience, the navigator allows users to find the best tools to meet their goals.
