FHI 360 is proud to partner with VillageReach on the Strengthening Lab Transport Systems for Epidemic Preparedness and Response project, to enhance laboratory sample referral and transportation systems for epidemic-prone infectious diseases across Africa.
The program addresses critical barriers to diagnosing infectious diseases such as polio, measles, yellow fever, Ebola, mpox and cholera by improving sample transport systems, ensuring faster diagnoses, timely responses and saving lives in hard-to-reach communities.
In Guinea, FHI 360 works with the Ministry of Health to manage sample transport for all infectious diseases. A countrywide network of private local transporters transports samples via motorcycles, boats, minibuses and flights while the sample movements are captured in a locally developed data management system for tracking to ensure efficiency and accuracy.
For countries to respond rapidly in the case of emerging outbreaks, health systems need rapid and accurate diagnostic capacity. Strengthening lab transport systems is foundational piece of puzzle keeping the public safe from possible epidemics, in Guinea and all around the world.
