FHI 360 is partnering with the Community Foundation for the National Capital Region and Raise DC to increase the number of opportunity (or disconnected) youth in the Washington, DC, area who receive postsecondary degrees. Through a robust community of practice, called the Community Partnership for Postsecondary Attainment (CPPA), FHI 360 leads a group of dynamic stakeholders that includes community-based organizations, charter schools and higher education institutions. The partnership collects and uses data to identify and adopt promising strategies to improve postsecondary school readiness, transition and persistence. The work is part of the Lumina Foundation’s postsecondary attainment initiative.
In addition to leading the CPPA, FHI 360 also gathers a cross-sector advisory team that includes representatives from K-12, state education, workforce, philanthropy and other fields to support the work of CPPA organizations and identify resources throughout the region. FHI 360 also periodically gathers an expanded group of DC-based stakeholders to engage on the broader issue of postsecondary attainment for underserved and underprepared young adults.
Because of our solid track record of leading education collaborations, FHI 360 serves as the trusted backbone for this effort. Primary activities include support for monthly CPPA meetings; the development of a three-year, research-informed curriculum; and support for the collection of postsecondary data, which comes from sources including the National Student Clearinghouse, DC State Longitudinal Education Data System, local colleges and universities, and individual organizations.
