Durham, N.C. – FHI 360 was selected by USAID to lead the Inspire Social and Behavior Change (SBC) Activity, the agency’s centrally funded flagship SBC award. A five-year cooperative agreement, Inspire SBC will increase the use of theory-informed, evidence-based, locally led SBC programming to support countries in improving health and development outcomes.
“Social and behavior change programming is critical to addressing complex issues and achieving a broad range of health and development goals,” says Kara Tureski, Inspire SBC project director at FHI 360. “FHI 360 welcomes the opportunity to build on USAID’s legacy of investments in SBC and to advance the field — in collaboration with partners and communities — through the design and delivery of activities that inspire, support and sustain positive and transformative change.”
Inspire SBC will provide SBC technical leadership and support across a variety of health areas, including family planning and reproductive health; global health security; malaria; maternal, newborn and child health; nutrition; and HIV along with other priority health areas. Inspire SBC is able to work across a range of development areas, such as democracy, human rights and governance; environmental conservation; education; and agriculture and food security.
Inspire SBC will also support the advancement of cross-cutting USAID priorities such as localization, youth engagement and involvement, health systems strengthening, and the engagement of marginalized groups and communities — especially women and girls, underrepresented racial, ethnic and Indigenous communities.
FHI 360 is the prime implementing partner. Other partners are the African Society for Social and Behavior Change (AS-SBC), the Centre for Behaviour Change and Communication (CBCC), Data Science Nigeria (DSN), Fraym, IPE Global, N’weti Health Communication, ONG RAES, Save the Children Federation and YUX.
