WASHINGTON, D.C. — FHI 360 has been selected as the lead agency to implement the ELEVATE Nutrition (Enhancing Local Efforts for Vital, Transformative, and Evidence-Based Nutrition) project, funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). The five-year cooperative agreement of up to US$99.5 million aims to advance local implementation of high-quality nutrition programs and policies to improve the nutritional status of women and children, particularly in the first 1,000 days.
“The climate crisis, the COVID-19 pandemic, ongoing conflicts, and economic and social inequities have prevented many countries from reaching their nutrition goals,” says Nadra Franklin, FHI 360’s managing director of global nutrition.
To regain momentum toward positive nutritional outcomes, FHI 360 will help advance the implementation of multisectoral nutrition policies and programs through ELEVATE Nutrition.
“The technical expertise across FHI 360, including our Alive & Thrive and 1,000 Days initiatives, as well as Intake, has fueled significant improvements in the quality of child feeding and maternal nutrition practices and the measurement of diets around the world. And we are thrilled to expand our efforts through the ELEVATE Nutrition project, alongside our partners, to continue to fight undernutrition and improve health outcomes,” adds Franklin.
To implement ELEVATE Nutrition, FHI 360 will collaborate with partners Action Against Hunger, Bixal, Oxford Policy Management, CNFA: Cultivating New Frontiers in Agriculture and GEMNet-Health.
USAID administers the U.S. foreign assistance program, providing economic and humanitarian assistance in more than 80 countries worldwide.
