RESEARCH AND RESEARCH UTILIZATION
FHI 360 conducts rigorous, multidisciplinary research, with expertise in quantitative and qualitative methods in the fields of epidemiology, clinical research, biostatistics, implementation research, behavioral research, human-centered design and health economics. Guided by our research utilization framework, we implement studies for broad replicability and scalability. We have proven success in translating research and evidence into policies and programs at global, regional, national and local levels. Examples of FHI 360’s work include:
- Leading the Research for Scalable Solutions (R4S) project with funding from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). Through this award, we conduct implementation science research to improve the efficiency, cost-effectiveness and equity of family planning programs in Africa and Asia.
- Implementing the Contraceptive Technology Innovation (CTI) Initiative, a project funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation that is designed to develop new and strategically important contraceptives, through a strong focus on global partnerships.
- Leading Innovate FP and Envision FP, contraceptive technology research projects funded by USAID, which work to develop, introduce and expand understanding of contraceptive technologies to enhance choice and reduce unmet need.
- Generating evidence to determine if and how expanded access to the levonorgestrel intrauterine system, also known as the hormonal IUD, could increase contraceptive use in sub-Saharan Africa, through the Learning about Expanded Access and Potential (LEAP) Initiative.
- Partnering with peer organizations on global projects, including the USAID-funded Knowledge SUCCESS and MOMENTUM Private Healthcare Delivery projects.
- Led implementation of the Evidence for Contraceptive Options and HIV Outcomes (ECHO) Study, a randomized controlled trial of hormonal contraception and HIV acquisition, conducted by the ECHO Consortium.
