Despite numerous educational reform initiatives around the world, equity remains elusive. Gender, sexuality, race, ethnicity, culture, religion and income level — among other factors — often affect access to education and the quality of that education. Crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the rapidly accelerating climate crisis have exacerbated inequity and widened gaps in education access and outcomes. FHI 360 will join colleagues from around the world to share our experience working to overcome these challenges and more at the Comparative and International Education Society (CIES) Annual Meeting, which will center on the theme “Improving Education for a More Equitable World,” from February 14–22, 2023, in Washington, D.C.
FHI 360’s education specialists will discuss topics including reimagining teacher professional development following the disruptions of the COVID-19 pandemic; locally defined solutions for the inclusion of marginalized populations; equity in higher education in Latin America and the Caribbean; social emotional learning; play-based learning; and the impacts of nonformal, accelerated learning on the learning outcomes and social, emotional and mental health of young people.
