Kazakhstan

Started work in 2020

FHI 360 focuses on strengthening the national HIV response in Kazakhstan through the global Meeting Targets and Maintaining Epidemic Control (EpiC) project, which is funded by the U.S. government and led by FHI 360. This project supports countries worldwide in accelerating efforts to control the HIV epidemic, focusing on populations with a higher likelihood of acquiring HIV. Since October 2025, EpiC also supports global health security activities to strengthen the country’s ability to prevent, detect and respond to health emergencies.

In Kazakhstan, EpiC collaborates with government agencies, community-based organizations, and the private sector to build up the national HIV response. The project enhances HIV case finding, prevention, treatment, and viral load suppression to reduce new infections and improve health outcomes. It emphasizes the use of evidence-based, high-quality services and innovative approaches to build sustainable systems and local capacity. The project aims to ensure long-term, self-reliant management of the HIV epidemic.

During the COVID-19 Vaccine Technical Assistance Project, EpiC Kazakhstan engaged private sector partners to lead large-scale communication and advocacy campaigns. These efforts strengthened public-private partnerships and helped build resilience and preparedness for future public health emergencies.
