July 2016 — In July 2016, mSTAR partnered with the Government of Liberia to roll out the first mobile salary payments to 67 teachers in Nimba County, Liberia. This fact sheet describes the initial rollout, where teachers with moderate to no mobile money experience successfully received salaries via their mobile devices. The mobile money payment completely eliminated time away from their classrooms and reduced costs to receive their salaries by 84 percent.
mSTAR: Mobile Solutions Technical Assistance and Research/Liberia
June 2016 — The Mobile Solutions Technical Assistance and Research (mSTAR)/Liberia project supports the U.S. Agency for International Development’s objective of increasing the efficiency of government payments. mSTAR is working with the Government of Liberia to roll out mobile salary payments for teachers and health workers to improve timely and transparent disbursements.
