This success story highlights the PEPFAR- and USAID-funded Meeting Targets and Maintaining Epidemic Control (EpiC) project’s efforts to improve HIV viral load (VL) testing coverage in Jakarta, Indonesia. From 2019 to 2023, the project addressed challenges such as limited VL sample collection access, staffing shortages and delays in returning of test results through targeted strategies. Solutions to these challenges included mobile sample collection, extended clinic hours, specimen transport system support and partnerships with private laboratories. These interventions increased VL coverage from 53% in June of 2020 to 90% in September 2023, reduced testing delays and expanding access for underserved populations.
