April 2022 — As part of a series of briefs on country ownership and multisector engagement developed by the Act to End Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) | West program, funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development, this technical brief discusses how dynamic and adaptive technical assistance provided to national NTD programs supports strategic capacity-building throughout all levels of the health system and domestic resource mobilization. Technical assistance needs to expand beyond strengthening disease-specific programs to facilitating NTD program efforts that engage and leverage national systems in ways that strengthen the leadership capacity of NTD programs while not undermining government leadership.
The brief aims to share insights gained from Act to End NTDs | West’s NTD sustainability activities, which are currently underway in nine West African countries, with support from NTD implementing partners, donors and global stakeholders.
