December 2004 – FHI 360 collaborated with the United Nations Development Programme and the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS, under the auspices of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States, to host the Regional Religious Leaders Colloquium. This colloquium was part of a series of activities implemented by FHI 360’s Implementing AIDS Prevention and Care (IMPACT) project. During the colloquium, more than 80 Arab religious leaders agreed unanimously to respond to HIV/AIDS by signing the Cairo Declaration.
The signed Cairo Declaration states: “We, the Muslim and Christian leaders, working in the field of HIV/AIDS in the Arab World … face the imminent danger of the HIV/AIDS epidemic and have a great responsibility and duty that demands urgent action.” Read the entirety of the Declaration in this one-page publication.
