July 2014 — This training manual, a companion to the job aid for parents and volunteers, was developed by the Yekokeb Berhan Programme for Highly Vulnerable Children in Ethiopia. The manual is intended to train staff and volunteers at local community service organizations on how to strengthen the parenting capacity of parents and caregivers in their community. The training focuses on improving the:
- Attitudes and behaviors of caregivers when caring for children
- Confidence of caregivers in their parenting skills
- Relationships between caregivers and their children
- Behavior of children
- Overall well-being of children
The training also aims to reduce:
- Caregiver stress and anxiety
- Corporal punishment and other unfair discipline methods of children
