Through the Connected & Engaged: Family and Community Collaboration with School Districts project, supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, FHI 360 reviews and conducts research and offers research-based strategies to help school districts, community-based organizations and caregivers create strong partnerships to address education challenges.
The Connected & Engaged project conducted a comprehensive review of existing research and resources on family and community collaboration. These initial findings informed our primary research activities, through which we gathered stories, perspectives and opinions from educators, school administrators, caregivers, community-based organizations, researchers and subject matter experts on the strategies and approaches school districts have taken to achieve specific goals.
Based on these findings, the Connected & Engaged project created a guide to help school practitioners use our research to achieve their own goals around improving trust, communication, mindsets and capacity in their school communities. The guide includes strategies and resources for school practitioners to customize and adapt best practices to their own communities. The guide also contains a set of practice and policy briefs, profiles of districts demonstrating exemplary strategies, videos highlighting solutions in action and a library of essential resources identified through our resource scan.
