Dr. Christian Pitter is FHI 360’s senior vice president for programs and research, providing strategic direction and leadership to the global development programs and global research areas to deliver sustainable impact through high-quality, data-driven interventions and discovery.
Previously, he was the director of the Global Health and Population (GHP) practice, where he led FHI 360’s global health portfolio, including Infectious Diseases, Global Health Security, Data and Analytics, Social and Behavior Change, Health Systems Strengthening, Global Health and Population Research, Science Facilitation, Product Development and Introduction, and Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health. He also served as director of GHP’s Infectious Diseases and Health Systems department.
Pitter came to FHI 360 from University Research Co., LLC (URC), where he held multiple positions. Prior to that, he was the senior director of global technical policy and partnerships at the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. Earlier in his career, he was the principal advisor to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s antiretroviral treatment program in Uganda. He was also an assistant adjunct professor at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), holding a joint appointment in the Institute for Global Health and the Department of Pediatrics.
Pitter has a medical degree from Emory University’s School of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency in the Department of Pediatrics at UCSF and returned to UCSF as a postdoctoral fellow at the Center for AIDS Prevention Studies. He has a master’s degree in public health from Harvard University’s T.H. Chan School of Public Health and a bachelor’s degree in biology from Yale University.
