This World Humanitarian Day — and every day — FHI 360 salutes the courage and dedication of humanitarian aid workers all over the world.
We must not overlook that the people from affected communities are the first to respond to an emergency and stay to deliver aid long after others have gone. They experience not just the tragedy of the moment but also the stress of their urgent work. We stand in admiration of their unwavering commitment to help others survive and recover in times of great need, often putting the needs of others ahead of their own.
We must do much more and much better to protect civilians and humanitarian aid workers no matter where they are. Because aid workers are not a target — and everyone, everywhere, deserves the opportunity to lead a full and healthy life.
