Preparing students for life requires an integrated, holistic approach to education that both supports their academic learning and prepares them to become thriving adults. Social emotional learning (SEL) is an indispensable part of student mental health and wellness, helping improve attitudes about self and others while reducing emotional distress and risky behaviors. Our research-based work supports SEL at school, during out-of-school time, over the summer, and with families and the community.
FHI 360’s U.S. education team designed and built web-based SEL hubs for Durham Public Schools and Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools. The websites, both of which are now maintained by district staff, have become central to the districts’ SEL communication and dissemination efforts.
