FHI 360’s peacebuilding and conflict mitigation practice area relies on a learning cycle for monitoring and evaluation (M&E) that provides a complete picture of performance and ensures that programs adapt to external changes and internal project learning. Our approach also includes:
- Seeking out and pursuing opportunities to generate evidence-based research
- Including local partners and stakeholders in M&E efforts and developing their M&E capacity
- Cooperating with third parties to ensure rigorous impact evaluations
We involve local staff and partners in selecting and monitoring clear, achievable measures of outputs and outcomes, directly tied to connectors, resiliencies, dividers and grievances addressed by our programs. Recognizing that each conflict project is unique in its focus and context, we select from a mix of proven quantitative and qualitative methodologies, instruments and frameworks to identify and customize the M&E tools and approaches most appropriate for each project.
Our experts also collaborate with third-party specialists to obtain rigorous evidence of program impact by establishing control groups and structuring activities (if needed) to allow for random placement or assignment of treatment groups.
