Female sex workers have a higher likelihood of exposure to HIV than the general population. At the same time, they face elevated levels of stigma and discrimination and are sometimes subjected to criminal laws and policies.
In Mozambique, where HIV prevalence is among the highest in the world, a project led by FHI 360 and funded by USAID through PEPFAR uses a peer-to-peer approach to reach female sex workers and link them to HIV testing, prevention and treatment. This includes receiving stigma-free health services and social support.
The approach allows female sex workers to access the HIV services they need to live healthy lives, despite social and structural barriers. Read more in the photo story below.
