This training module is part of a series entitled Contraceptive Technology and Reproductive Health Series and can be used as an interactive self-study program or as a participatory, group training experience. The series was developed and produced by Family Health International (FHI) with funding from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and assistance from other agencies concerned with international family planning.

Other currently available topics are:

  • Barrier Methods
  • Client-Provider Interaction
  • Contraception After Pregnancy
  • Emergency Contraceptive Pills
  • Female and Male Sterilization
  • Injectable Contraceptives
  • Intrauterine Devices (IUDs)
  • Introduction to Contraceptive Methods: An Overview
  • Lactational Amenorrhea Method (LAM)
  • Oral Contraceptives
  • Reproductive Health of Young Adults

All modules are available in hardback form with slides in English, French and Spanish.

The purpose of these training modules is to meet the continuing educational needs of family planning practitioners and policy-makers in developing countries by providing the most current information available about contraceptive technology. The information in the modules is intended to be used at workshops or seminars for physicians, nurses, pharmacists, family planning counselors, midwives, or other trained health care personnel. The information is appropriate for those with a basic knowledge of and familiarity with family planning programs and methods of contraception, but can also be used in pre-service training settings for medical and nursing students.
