2008 – This tuberculosis (TB) training package is for training outreach workers and peer educators at the nongovernmental organization level. In addition to providing basic knowledge about TB, the package builds skills in TB detection, screening and referral, and motivation for treatment and adherence. The package is written in a participatory manner, in consultation with trainers, outreach workers and peer educators.
It contains these integrated tools that facilitate a two-day training:
- “Coming Together to STOP TB”
- Visual aids (flash cards, treatment chart, TB quiz)
- Animated film, “All in a Day’s Work“
- Take-away booklet
Avahan, the India AIDS Initiative of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, is working with high-risk behavior groups in six states and along national highways to reduce HIV prevalence. The key population includes female and transgender sex workers and men who have sex with men. Avahan has recently integrated care and support services for HIV-positive persons, which includes management of opportunistic infections such as TB. To this end, Avahan has initiated linkages with the Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme for referral services and staff training. FHI 360 is a key partner under the Avahan India AIDS Initiative.
