July 2012 — With the potential to change health care systems as we know them, mHealth commonly refers to the use of mobile technology — such as phones and personal digital assistants — in helping health care providers serve people previously considered hard to reach. For FHI 360, mHealth is an effective way of working with community-based organizations and ministries of health to share information on family planning, reproductive health, HIV and sexually transmitted infections. FHI 360’s mHealth work affects populations such as men who have sex with men. Our efforts encourage them to access health services and provide them with health information, including facts about HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted infections.
