Right from the Start in the Digital Age
November 2015 — Right from the Start in the Digital Age is a position paper addressing the need to lay the groundwork for children in grades PreK–3 to develop both safe and responsible digital citizenship that will help prevent them from engaging in, and being affected by, harmful behaviors such as cyberbullying in later years. Digital citizenship is a new area of learning for children who are just entering school or in the early primary grades. Our position is that because children are using digital devices at increasingly early ages, learning about how to be safe and responsible online must become an important part of parenting and classroom curricula. The position paper is the catalyst for a national initiative to engage thought leaders in helping children develop the social-emotional skills they need to stay safe and responsible while online.
