LAC Regional Workforce Development Program: Guatemala Labor Market Assessment

November 2016 — Using FHI 360’s rigorous labor market assessment framework to evaluate market demand for skills in Guatemala, this study’s authors analyze a blend of quantitative and qualitative data to evaluate prevailing economic trends and identify priority growth sectors. Conducted through a lens of secondary education, the analysis looks within certain priority sectors — agriculture, tourism, processed food and beverages, and textiles — to evaluate the demand for technical education graduates against the supply of qualified workers. Key findings are synthesized into value chains to illustrate employer skills demands, employment entry points and technical education needs.

This assessment helps decision-makers in Guatemala understand the demand for skills and contributes to the larger effort in bridging the skills gap between labor market supply (education) and demand (employers).
