Bridging the Skills Gap: Reflections from Employers, Educators and Youth in Latin America and the Caribbean: Dominican Republic Country Report (Spanish)

September 2017 — Building from the regional report, Bridging the Skills Gap: Insights from Employers, Educators and Youth in Latin America and the Caribbean, and funded by the FHI Foundation, this report presents findings from a 10-month exploration of the secondary education school-to-work transition in the Dominican Republic. The study’s authors conducted more than 100 interviews with students, teachers, employers and public officials from across the country to explore trends in youth employability and the pervasive skills gap inhibiting Dominican youth from securing productive employment opportunities.

The report addresses these questions:

  • Which skills are needed for employability in the Dominican Republic?
  • What skills do students currently acquire in the formal education system?
  • What innovative delivery models are currently used to improve skill acquisition and youth employability?
