Alcançar Project: Reports, Tools and Briefs
June 2020 — The Alcançar project partners with Mozambique’s Ministry of Health to strengthen the capacity of the health system to deliver high-quality, client-centered maternal, newborn and child health (MNCH) services. These program reports, tools and briefs offer practical, up-to-date knowledge, generated through Alcançar’s activities, that can be used to strengthen MNCH programming at national, provincial, district, facility and community-levels.
- Gender Equality, Social Inclusion, and Youth in Maternal, Neonatal, and Child Health: (Portuguese)
This is a toolkit developed by the Alcançar Project to generate understanding among health professionals and community workers about gender equality, social inclusion, and youth in the context of maternal, neonatal, and child health. One of the project’s strategies is to integrate a gender and social inclusion approach that prioritizes female empowerment and male engagement at all ages, in order to address unequal social and gender norms underlying many MCH challenges. - Baseline Assessment of Facility and District Capacity: Alcançar, Qualidade de Serviços de Saúde para Mulheres e Crianças
The Alcançar project conducted a baseline assessment to establish an evidence base against which to measure project performance and impact over of the life of the project and to inform project priorities and planning

- Achievements from the Alcançar Quality Improvement Collaborative to reduce maternal and infant mortality (August 2023)
The Alcançar project in Mozambique hosted a webinar on August 2, 2023, to discuss the project’s activities, innovations and results. Alcançar technical staff members, representatives of MINAU (Mozambique’s Ministry of Health), a staff member from the Institute for Healthcare Improvement and a project staff member from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) shared information about the project’s approach to improving the quality of maternal, newborn and child health services. The slides in this webinar present results from implementing a Quality Improvement Collaborative to reduce maternal and infant mortality. - Introducing obstetric simulation in Nampula and Zambézia - an overview of the approach and implementation learnings (February 2023)
The Alcançar project in Mozambique hosted a webinar on February 15, 2023, to discuss the project’s activities, innovations and results. Alcançar technical staff members, representatives of MINAU (Mozambique’s Ministry of Health), a staff member from PRONTO International, and a project staff member from the U.S. Agency for International Development shared information about the project’s work in Nampula province across the continuum of care, including pregnancy, labor and delivery, postpartum care, and child health. The slides in this webinar present results from the Alcançar project’s partnership with PRONTO International in implementing their obstetric simulation approach in Nampula and Zambézia provinces. - mParto in Monapo: Using a digital application to monitor women during labor, delivery and referral (October 2022)
The Alcançar project in Mozambique hosted a webinar on October 5, 2022 — the third in a series — to discuss the project’s activities, innovations and results. Technical staff members from the Alcançar project, representatives of Mozambique’s Ministry of Health and project staff members from the U.S. Agency for International Development shared information about the Alcançar project’s work in Nampula Province across the continuum of care, including pregnancy, labor and delivery, postpartum care, and child health.,br/> The slides from the webinar present the results of the Alcançar project’s partnership with Dimagi to support health care providers in using mParto (“mLabour” in Portuguese), a mobile application adapted for Mozambique. The application supports health care providers in each stage of caring for a woman in labor at a health facility — admission, labor and delivery, immediate postpartum, and discharge — and allows health care providers to quickly identify women who need closer monitoring or referral to a higher-level facility. - Remote training improves providers’ knowledge of maternal, newborn and child health in Nampula Province, Mozambique (June 2022)
The Alcançar project in Mozambique hosted a webinar – the second in a series – on June 15, 2022. This webinar described a remote training approach for nurses and community health workers to improve knowledge of and services in maternal, newborn and child health in Nampula Province. Alcançar technical staff members and staff from the project’s consortium partner, Viamo, shared information about the development and implementation of the remote training approach in Nampula Province from November 2020 through September 2021. Representatives of Mozambique’s Ministry of Health and the U.S. Agency for International Development provided supportive statements about the remote training approach during the webinar. - Results from health system innovations to improve maternal, newborn and child health in Nampula Province, Mozambique (April 2022)
The Alcançar project in Mozambique hosted a webinar on April 20, 2022, to discuss key project activities, results and innovations. Alcançar technical staff members were joined by representatives of the Ministry of Health and the U.S. Agency for International Development to share information about the project’s work in Nampula Province across the continuum of care, including pregnancy, intrapartum, postpartum and child health. The slides in this webinar — the first of a series — present the results from the project’s launch in Q4 2019 through Q4 2021.
