This paper assessed supply and demand factors that influence the use of subcutaneous depot medroxyprogesterone acetate (DMPA-SC). The data show that continuation did not seem to be influenced by women’s sociodemographic characteristics or the type of provider that trained the client to self-inject, whether clinic-based provider or community health worker. The results show that public-sector community health workers in low-resource settings can safely and effectively provide DMPA-SC and train women to self-inject the method.
