Key populations — female sex workers, men who have sex with men and transgender women — are disproportionally affected by gender-based violence and HIV. This paper provides data on the nature, location, perpetrators and consequences of gender-based violence and its perceived effect on HIV risk. Results are being used to inform HIV policies and programming.
