Economic resources and HIV preventive behaviors among school-enrolled young women in rural South Africa

This study was a secondary analysis of baseline data from HIV Prevention Trials Network (HPTN) 068, a Phase III trial to assess the effect of a monthly cash transfer, conditional on school attendance, on HIV acquisition among young women in South Africa. The results indicate that increasing young women’s individual (versus household) economic resources may complement prevention initiatives.
