Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is a critical component of a comprehensive HIV prevention package for men who have sex with men and transgender women. This study examined the factors and characteristics related to nonadherence and loss to follow-up in these groups to improve appropriate PrEP use. The findings suggest that urgent, innovative strategies for PrEP adherence and retention support are needed, especially for sub-populations such as younger users, transgender women and new clients.
