The Urban Health Initiative (UHI) was designed to respond to rapid urbanization, high levels of poverty and low health indicators among the urban poor in India’s most populous state, Uttar Pradesh. The project complements and supports national and state urban development and urban health mission plans and goals. The FHI 360 initiative prioritizes the implementation and scale-up of effective evidence-based strategies and innovations that increase demand for and access to quality, cost-effective, sustainable family planning services.

The project aims to make use of modern family planning methods a norm among urban communities in Uttar Pradesh through private and public approaches. The project operates in 11 cities within the state.
