Strengthening the Indonesian Military Response to HIV

As the number of HIV cases among members of the Indonesian Armed Forces (Tentara Nasional Indonesia or TNI) continues to rise, the TNI has made controlling HIV a strategic priority. With funding from the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) through the U.S. Department of Defense, FHI 360 is providing a three-year package of technical support to strengthen TNI’s capacity to implement a sustainable, comprehensive response to HIV. Under the project, FHI 360 is supporting TNI in its efforts to:

  • Undertake an Integrated Biological and Behavioral Surveillance survey covering all branches of the military
  • Strengthen HIV prevention efforts
  • Expand and improve the quality of HIV counseling and testing services
  • Implement a monitoring and evaluation system that collects data to monitor performance and assess effectiveness
